The Archives Division collects, preserves, and makes available for research purposes rare, unique, and primary materials which document the life experiences, history, and culture of people of African descent across the Diaspora, with a concentration in local Atlanta history. It allows patrons to work directly with primary source materials. The Division's holdings include personal papers, records of organizations and institutions, photographs, prints, rare books, audio and visual resources, ephemera and subject or thematic materials.


WEB-DISELEReference & Research Service 
Provides information and resources to support the specialized study and research needs of scholars and the general public in the area of Africana World Studies. The Division maintains a limited physical access policy and a non-circulating collection for specialized study on the African, African American, and the African diasporic experience. Information is available in the traditional book format, microforms, newspapers, magazines, journals, video cassette tapes, audiocassette tapes, books on tape, compact discs, vertical files, and online databases.


logobnrProgram Division
Provides a variety of events, activities, and services that interpret and highlight the various collections and collection emphasis of the Library. Programming includes an ongoing series of seminars, lectures, workshops, book discussions and reading, exhibits, and special initiatives. The Auburn Avenue Research Library through programming, exhibits, learning sessions and outreach to the community, seeks to celebrate the similarities and differences among people and to incite wonder and appreciation for the contributions of African-Americans and the people of the African Diaspora to history and culture. It is through the presentation of educational, cultural and scholarly program events and exhibitions that the library interprets its collections, and highlights its materials and services to the public.
