Central Library Celebrates Black History Month!

What has grown out of a week-long celebration (Negro History Week, 1926) into February being federally recognized as the time to honor African American History (1986). The Father of Black History Month, Dr. Carter G. Woodson would continue to challenge us to strive for a better today and tomorrow.

The celebration of African American history and culture can never be limited to one month, but how important is it to take the time to reflect on the courageous efforts of our trailblazers who paved the way.

The theme for this Black History Month is "African Americans and Labor." From the involuntary labor of enslaved Africans to the civil rights and economic advocacy from activists and thought leaders, this February let us continue to remember the struggles and triumphs of those who came before us. Along with our collection of books, please check out our electronic resources on African American Studies. Infobase has an extensive collection of articles, videos, and images on African Americans and Labor, opens a new window.
