Directors Blog – December 2024

In every season information is found to be necessary about so many things making it impossible to list the needs or to know what will be requested. But what may be the most important things are the expectations that the needed facts, figures, history, thoughts, philosophies, ideas, principles, proposals, etc. exist somewhere and that they can be found.

According to the author, Studs Terkel (aka Louis Terkel) “All you need in life is truth and beauty and you can find both at the public library.” That may be a pie-in-the-sky opinion about libraries because some untruths and not-so-beautiful things can be discovered among those lofty pursuits. But libraries are places to find out about history, learn facts, and fall in love with fiction.

Therefore, everyone is always welcome to come into Fulton County’s libraries and browse the many treasures inside. Tell your family and friends about your experiences within the walls of the branches, the Central Library and the Auburn Avenue Research Library on African American Culture and History. Those 34 libraries are among the great places to visit and doing so is free.

When you apply for and get a library card, you can take a few things of interest with you to peruse, return them, and take out more. That sounds like a great deal to me!

Happy holidays!
