It’s been said that people no longer make it a point to declare resolutions at the start of a new year. That is understandable because those great plans seem to fall by the wayside by March, if not sooner. Perhaps a new way to approach it is to take some time and think back on all our past resolutions, write them down, and determine which ones seem to reappear the most, and let that be the start of something new. Just choose one of them and see how far you can go to have it make a difference in your life.
One thing those of us at the Library noticed as 2024 ended, was a heightened interest in educational pursuits by those who want to increase their knowledge and prepare themselves for their job search. The Library System offers GED classes and testing and Career Online High School. Computer classes are offered, as well. You are invited to get informed about those offerings.
Also, it may be that you have some spare time due to retirement or a conscious effort to use downtime in a different way. Consider including leisure reading as one way to enhance those moments. A reading, or re-reading of the classics might fill the gaps. It never hurts to revisit Shakespeare’s works or to finally decide to finish Tolstoy’s War and Peace.
No matter what you decide to do, libraries are available to assist you with your learning, leisure reading, and research needs. Snow days, and weekends spent relaxing might find you with an armload of books. Don’t forget those online resources as you surf the Internet. Let it be time-worthy and worth your time. Resolve to read.
