Directors Blog – February 2025

Please join me in looking ahead with anticipation to a fascinating spring. It may be filled with wonder and surprise, but you will meet the moment. Go outside and spot a butterfly; look for a bird perched high in the trees; and contemplate a snail, slowly crossing the road.

The beauty and awe of nature can delight and inspire us. The creatures we observe may lie around all day; or appear to be nuisances, but they can teach us to revel in their presence with appreciation.

They can make us take time to reflect on them and to recall childhood memories. One memory especially dear to me was when, as a 10-year-old, I used to love playing hopscotch with my friends. We would spend spring and summer days, whenever possible, engaged in the merriment found in that simple activity. Afterward, I would go inside and get immersed in reading a book, helping to make dinner, and then reading a few more pages.

You are encouraged to find your passion in spring’s reawakening. First, stop at your neighborhood library and check out a book. I am convinced there will always be something you can find to read or research once you step inside a library. The brick-and-mortar buildings await you. However, online materials are available anytime you want to take the library with you electronically.

Be sure to carry your library card with you and keep it in good standing. With your card, you will always be ready when you find yourself at the library.
