Library employees have been incredibly busy as the Summer Reading Program came to an end in August; the One Book, One Read Program reached its successful conclusion at the end of September; and the first half of the awesome Children’s Book Festival (CBF) hosted school kids, toddlers, and babies as October got underway to usher in the 4th quarter of 2023. The second session of the CBF will take place on Friday, October 27th at 10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. at the Central Library, for teens and tweens. Check the website at www.fulcolibrary.org for more information. A lot of planning went into each of those initiatives that are our signature programs. All three are funded and supported by the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library Foundation.
Additionally, the Foundation also funded the opportunity for employees to attend the recent Staff Development Day Program held at the Central Library. Libraries were closed to the public, and staff spent the day in training, enrichment classes, and workshops. That in-person training had not been possible in nearly four years. It was a wonderful opportunity for learning and sharing as staff increased their knowledge and readiness to continue putting in place the Library’s Strategic Plan.
The plan includes the “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” initiative. The Library System is committed to early literacy, learning, and reading. In the coming months, we expect to have many more announcements of an increased focus on literacy, partnerships, and digital inclusion, which are the overarching components of the Library’s Strategic Plan.
