Duplex Poetry was a poetry format designed by Jericho Brown. In his blog post, Invention, he describes catching the flu in 2018, and being inspired to create, due to how gravely ill he felt. These poems would go onto become The Tradition, which would win a Pulitzer Prize in Poetry in 2020. There are many sonnet subversions in The Tradition and the duplex in one such subversion that Brown had been ruminating over for a long time. By combining the traditional sonnet, with a ghazal and the concept of repeated changing lines, the duplex poem was born. His original article gives a short guide to creating your own duplex poem.
