What’s so special about March 14th? Well, it’s recognized as Pi Day. Pi (π) is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. In mathematics, Pi has the approximate numerical value of 3.14 which is why it is celebrated on March 14th (3/14). Archimedes, who was a Greek mathematician, is credited as being the one to determine the value of pi. So, no matter the size of the circle, the ratio of the circumference to the diameter will always be 3.14.
A physicist named Larry Shaw is the one responsible for coming up with the concept of Pi Day. What started out as a small celebration in 1988 eventually turned into it being declared a national holiday by Congress in 2009.
There are so many ways in which to celebrate this day. The most popular and obvious way of course would be to partake in your favorite pie. This could be something sweet like apple pie or something on the savory side like chicken pot pie. You could also create a pizza with your favorite toppings, as some people also refer to pizza as a pie.
Please feel free to check out the list of books below for everything related to pies.
