Looking for your next read? Check out Supertruck by Stephen Savage, reviewed by Fulco Library staff, Anne A.
When the city gets buried in snow, who is there to rescue the stranded trucks? Supertruck will save the day! Most days he is just a garbage truck collecting trash. However, when a snow storm hits, he rushes to the nearest garage, attaches his plow and starts digging. The other trucks in the city have no idea of his secret identity.
If you have a toddler who loves trucks and/or superheroes, they will be captivated by this story. The simple text, anthropomorphic trucks, and the bright colorful pictures make this book perfect for the youngest readers. Kids will learn that sometimes it is good to be an anonymous hero like Supertruck is. Parents will enjoy the Superman references. For example, when Supertruck is a garbage truck he wears glasses like Clark Kent, but when he dons his plow the glasses disappear.
Supertruck is available on Hoopla as an audiobook and a short animated movie. Patrons can also place the print book on hold and check it out at Curbside Pickup. If you enjoy this story, consider reading I Stink by Kate McMullan about another garbage truck collecting trash at night in New York City. Borrow Supertruck tonight and read about a new kind of superhero.
