The Marvel universe has many ties to our own, especially in its latest phase of movies and streaming shows. The selection of titles on display at Northside looks deeper at the stories of seven characters:
Namor the Sub-Mariner, Isaiah Bradley, Kamala Khan, Shuri of Wakanda, Shang-Chi, Jane Foster and Armin Zola
These otherwise fantastical people seen in "Ms. Marvel", "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier", "Love and Thunder" and others can be traced back through history. These seven characters lead to folklore and mythology, science and geopolitics, racism and oppression. Ancient African kingdoms, the partition of India and the ongoing search for wormholes in space. Plus the many Nazis brought over to work for the US government before the Soviets could grab them. All December we will be featuring these real stories along with the Marvel comics they helped inspire.
