CENTRAL CHILDREN
BOOKS AND MATERIALS
The Children's Department includes materials in all subject areas for children from birth to 7th grade. We have a variety of books and many other media including:
- Picture Books for children to read independently or for parents and/or teachers to read with children
- Easy Books for beginning readers
- Fiction or "chapter books" for older readers
- Non-Fiction for older readers and curriculum support
- Biographies for older readers and curriculum support; Magazines for leisure reading
- Board Books for infants and toddlers
- Read-a-longs, Launchpads, Playaway Bookpacks, DVDs and CDs
Additionally, there are several sub-collections: Award Winning Books; ABC Books/Phonics; and Counting Books; African American Picture Book Collection; Spanish Language; Parenting Collection and families of Children with Special Needs.

Arts and Crafts
We offer arts and craft exercises to expose children to a variety of new and different ways to express their creativity.

Research tells us that exposure to other cultures helps to promote diversity awareness.
Outreach Programs
Some of the Outreach Programs that we offer include Library Card Drives and Literacy Enhancement Programs.
Summer Reading Program
The Children's Department participates in the statewide Summer Reading Program.
Technology Classes
We offer instruction in using our web database; we provide guided tours of the Children's Department and the Central Library.
