ATLANTA – May 1, 2024 - Today, the Fulton County Library System announced the launch of Career Online High School. This program helps individuals earn their high school diploma through a free 18-month virtual and individualized program.
Available by scholarship, COHS offers adults the opportunity to complete their high school education through a self-directed course on their own schedule. Participants are supported by library staff, an academic coach, and certified instructors. The program also offers career certificates and each participant graduates with a resume, cover letter, and other tools to start or advance their career. The COHS national program has retention rates of 68-72% for students completing the pre-requisite program and 76% of graduates matriculate into post-secondary programs.
The Library System already offers robust technology and workforce development assistance programs. GED training and testing have been offered at multiple library sites since 2011. The COHS pilot program launches with an initial 12 scholarships available, supported by the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library Foundation with pilot funding from the Truist Foundation.
“Our libraries serve our community with so much more than books. Digital programs help us to meet community needs outside of library walls. Through Career Online High School, our patrons can gain the tools they need to advance their careers and education,” said Library System Executive Director Gayle Holloman. “Over 15,000 adults have graduated nationally from Career Online High School. Now, you can too, thanks to your local library!”
