The Fulton County Library System, in collaboration with the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library Foundation, recently announced, One Book, One Read a county-wide book club with the aim of getting as many people across Fulton County reading, talking about, and engaging with the same book. The goal is to promote critical conversations, community building, and literacy all while having fun with your friends, family, and neighbors.
The Library System’s first-ever One Book, One Read program began in January with Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents by Isabel Wilkerson. The book’s core resides in comparisons between the caste system in India, the American race system, and the rise of the Third Reich in Germany. It also examines the current state of governance and influence over race and ethnicity.
The 2022 One Book, One Read program is well underway with hundreds of participants throughout Fulton County engaging through book clubs and other organizations. Additionally, many of Fulton’s 34 libraries have hosted and will continue to host library branch book clubs around Caste.
Interested residents can still sign up at local libraries to be a part of their book club. The culminating event will now be a virtual lecture by Isabel Wilkerson held via Zoom on March 27th at 3 PM. The event is free and those interested in attending can register. If you have already registered or are signed up on the waitlist, you will receive an email with the zoom information.
