Resolve to Read

August 2020

It's hard to believe that summer is coming to an end soon. Children are heading back to school, albeit virtual school in most parts of metro Atlanta. The library's summer reading program has now ended and unlike any other year, was completely conducted online. The library continues to hold online programs like Storytime, book clubs, cooking shows, adult storytime and more.  We hope you will continue to join us for virtual programs every week (or when your schedule allows - all programs remain posted after airing).

Now we prepare for another first ... our first online-only Library Card Signup Month in September.  Another challenge the library staff is already working to meet head-on. Stay tuned to our website and social media for more information on this.  If you do no not have a library card or you know someone who doesn't have one, resolve to get one in September. Resolve to share the joy of reading with a friend or family member and encourage them to get their library card online. A library card continues to be the most important card in your wallet. New digital resources like Kanopy, Lynda.com, Creative Bug among others, are bringing more and more FREE digital services to your phone, tablet, computer and laptop.

We want you to continue to #ResolvetoRead for the rest of summer, both online and with a physical book.  Remember, libraries are now open for curbside pickup and you can place books on hold for pickup at your local branch. The library continues to be here to help you with all your reading, learning, research needs. Simply visit https://afpls.libanswers.com to speak with a librarian and ask for assistance with your library needs.  Don't forget, post your selfies, family photos or maybe even photos of kids reading to their pets with #ResolvetoRead, so we can share your post on our social media channels and on our website.

Have you been spending your summer catching up on your reading?  We know this summer has proven to be unlike any other before COVID-19.  What we used to describe as beach reads, may now be better referred to as backyard reads or living room reads!  While social distancing may be keeping you from social gatherings and beach vacations, we hope it is not keeping you from joining the Library in keeping up with your 2020 resolution ... #resolvetoread.  If you haven't had the chance to do this already, sign up for our Summer Reading Program.  It is not just for kids ... we have more and more adults joining us in the summer reading competition every year.  You can register at http://fultoncounty.beanstack.org and begin logging your books today.

If you're looking for some reading recommendations, check out our Resolve to Read booklist.  With 10 lists of book recommendations to choose from, you are sure to find your next "beached at home" read!

January 2020

Did You Know - 60% of Americans make New Year's resolutions in January, yet only about 8% of us achieve our resolutions each year?

The good news is, the library wants to help you reach those resolutions. Whether you need a great cook book to help you with your healthy eating resolutions, or a fitness book to help you with your fitness goals in the new year, we're here to help keep you on track. Maybe you've resolved to learn a new language, the Library has Mango Languages to help you with your goals!

All of these resolutions have one thing in common ... they all involve reading. In 2020, the Fulton County Library System wants you to #resolvetoread. Resolve to read a book with your newborn, through our Books for Babies program. Resolve to read a book with your child every night, because we know that reading to children early increases their chances for educational success later in life. Resolve to read for yourself every night. Read during your morning and evening commute with our eBooks and audiobooks.

There are so many positive outcomes when you read at any age. Join us and make 2020 the year you #ResolvetoRead.

Look out for more ways to participate in our #ResolvetoRead campaign in 2020. In the meantime, tag us (@fulcolibrary) in your photos on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and show us how you are reaching your reading goals and perhaps even, some of those resolutions.
